1954  NR  WESTERN  1h 27min
CAST— Burt Lancaster, Jean Peters, John McIntire, Charles (Bronson) Buchinsky
MUSIC— David Raksin  DIRECTOR— Robert Aldrich

Dull tale of wannabe war chief Burt Lancaster whose plan to take up the mantle of Geronimo falls flat numerous times. The problem isn’t his go-getter, kill-‘em-all attitude; the fact is that no one wants to sign up. So he decides to wage a one man war against the white man and everything that Whitey stands for. But it’s not gonna be easy; Whitey stands tall with untold numbers of redskin haters, while little ‘ol Lancaster stands alone. What seems a solid premise is actually a letdown from the start, as Lancaster’s brusque demeanor becomes more and more irksome. Beautiful Technicolor and surroundings but all around bothersome film.
OUR RATING— **
