As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     The Apartment
1960  NR  COMEDY  2h 5min
CAST— Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, Fred MacMurray, Ray Walston, Jack Kruschen, Edie Adams, David Lewis, Joan Shawlee
MUSIC— Adolph Deutsch  DIRECTOR— Billy Wilder

Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine star in this big-time Oscar-winner that proves that love can spring even from the most unlikely of places. Even from The Apartment. Jack Lemmon plays C. C. Baxter, an accountant (one of many) working for a New York insurance company; working his way to the top, in fact. But this accountant seems to be advancing a bit too fast. The secret is in The Apartment. It seems the higher-ups have gained the use of his apartment for their weekly sex-capades in exchange for occasional promotions. But when Baxter falls in love with his boss’ girlfriend, things get a bit more than complicated. This well-acted comedy-drama took home some hot awards, Oscar-wise: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration. Selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress.
OUR RATING— ***
