     Atlantis: The Lost Empire
2001  PG  ANIMATED  1h 36min
CAST— Michael J. Fox, James Garner, Cree Summer, Leonard Nimoy, Don Novello, Claudia Christian, Jacqueline Obradors, John Mahoney, Corey Burton, David Ogden Steirs, Jim Varney
MUSIC— James Newton Howard  DIRECTORS— Kirk Wise, Gary Trousdale

Beautiful animation is the highlight in an otherwise forgettable family feature. Michael J. Fox lends his voice to a nerdy linguist whose obsession is the lost island of Atlantis. He jumps at the opportunity to join an expedition to rediscover the island, led by a military commander voiced by James Garner. Garner’s plans soon become evident; he wants to steal Atlantis’ legendary power source, and sell it for an untold fortune. Not if Fox can help it. With the help of a beautiful Atlantean, Fox uncovers the truth behind the power, the very key to the Atlanteans’ survival. Fun for the duration though nothing memorable here.
OUR RATING— ** ½
FOLLOWED BY— Atlantis: Milo’s Return (2003)
