The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing
1973  PG  WESTERN  1h 54min
CAST— Burt Reynolds, Sarah Miles, George Hamilton, Lee J. Cobb, Jack Warden, Bo Hopkins, Robert Donner, Jay Silverheels
MUSIC— John Williams  DIRECTOR— Richard C. Sarafian  BASED ON— The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing (novel), by Marilyn Durham

Burt Reynolds stars in this tale of a band of roving thieves who have just successfully pulled a heist on a train. During their escape they come upon a young woman fleeing from a loveless marriage who reluctantly joins their quartet. Passive Reynolds wants to see her off far away from real civilization while others in his group would have their way with her. Though Reynolds is ruthless he’s no monster; he provides her with protection through their travels, protection from his men and protection from whatever may come. She begins to fall in love with him and as she draws closer she can see that, unlike the animals that surround him, he has his own agenda to attend to. A film that handles its adult subject matter rather bluntly, so parental guidance is suggested.
OUR RATING— ** ½
