As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Mr. Hulot’s Holiday
1953  NR  COMEDY  1h 26min
CAST— Jacques Tati, Nathalie Pascaud, Michelle Rolla, Valentine Camax, Louis Perrault
MUSIC— Alain Romans  DIRECTOR— Jacques Tati

Hopefully your last vacation went more swimmingly than Mr. Hulot’s. Director Jacques Tati plays Hulot, a clueless airhead a few cans short of a six-pack. Hulot wanders through a barely connected series of vignettes, blissfully unaware of the damage and destruction that he causes to the world around him. He’s staying at a small coastal village catering to vacationers of various shapes and sizes. But chaos ensues when Hulot comes to town. Various gags include a comically noisy roadster, a broken canoe, and a wild fireworks fiasco. While it is a talkie this import is reminiscent of the silent comedies of yesteryear, using sight gags to deliver the goods as opposed to spoken dialogue. French with English subtitles. AKA: Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot, Les Vacances de M. Hulot, Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday.
