It’s a story you’ve heard a million times before. Husband suspects wife of cheating. Wife suspects husband of cheating. Husband hires private detective to shadow wife. Wife hires private detective to shadow husband. Wife pays lounge-room singer to take a cruise-liner to South America, live it up and pretend to be wife, so that husband will think wife is out of town, thereby making it easier to spy on said husband. Detective shadows lounge-room singer, thinking that it’s the wife of aforementioned husband, only to fall madly in love with her himself. Singer, that is. You see? Simple as cake. This piece of musical fluff is treated with style, and for Doris Day’s film debut, she hits the silver screen with a smash. A few too many songs, but an entertaining voyage, nevertheless. AKA It’s Magic.
OUR RATING— ***
