We’ve all seen a Spider-Man. We’ve even seen an Iron Man. But here Marvel Studios unveils their newest cinematic creation: Ant-Man. Master thief Scott Lang has just been paroled after a stint in San Quentin. Desperate to reunite with his estranged daughter Lang does what he can to make ends meet, eventually turning back to a life of crime. But his perfect score seems a big bust when the vault he breaks holds not cash or jewels but a rather odd looking outfit, complete with nifty helmet. The suit is owned by Dr. Hank Pym, who used to wear the suit when he wanted to shrink in size and control ants. Really. Now Pym recruits Lang to be the new Ant-Man. No shrinking violet, Ant-Man (somehow) gains strength when his mass is reduced, and his ant-pals receive instructions via telepathic link. Lang and his newfound partners are soon racing the clock to prevent Pym’s former protégé from unleashing his own weaponized shrunken design known as the Yellowjacket. One can tell that even the folks at Marvel can see how ridiculous this material is; nothing is taken too seriously, the action offset by chuckles aplenty. This film is also (fittingly) smaller scale than other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but entertaining, nevertheless. And there’s still more to come…
