As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

And Now for Something Completely Different
1971  PG  COMEDY  1h 28min
CAST— Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Carol Cleveland, Connie Booth
MUSIC— Douglas Gamley, Fred Tomlinson, Michael Palin, Terry Jones  DIRECTOR— Ian McNaughton  BASED ON— Sketches appearing on Monty Python’s Flying Circus (television)

Let’s face it, Monty Python isn’t for everyone. Their distinctive brand of inane, irreverent, often incomprehensible humor deals with a variety of topics including, but not limited to, politics, religion, sexuality and just plain ol’ silliness. For those not in tune with the Flying Circus this film, the first feature for the British comedy troupe, the funny may seem few and far between. What we have here are recreations of some of their trademark sketches, the best of which (the dead parrot sketch, the lumberjack song) may be the only attraction for newbies. Best appreciated by aficionados this not-everyone’s-cup-of-tea comedy may either charm or repel.
OUR RATING— * ½
