As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Annie Oakley
1935  NR  WESTERN  1h 30min
CAST— Barbara Stanwyck, Preston Foster, Melvyn Douglas, Pert Kelton, Andy Clyde
MUSIC— Alberto Colombo  DIRECTOR— George Stevens

Entertaining Westerny comedy-drama focusing on the rootin’ tootin’-est little sharpshooter you ever did see. Barbara Stanwyck plays the countrified Annie Oakley whose reputation as a rifleman (or riflewoman) is renowned countywide. Here comes news of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, featuring world famous rifleman Preston Foster. The county persuades her to challenge him to a competition, and the rest is history. From there she is signed on to tour with the show where she becomes a genuine celebrity nationwide, all the while falling madly in love with Foster. Generous doses of humor liven things up while period flavor make this more of a romantic Western.
OUR RATING— ** ½
