Another slam-bang entry in the mighty Marvel manner. Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers, a puny guy from Brooklyn whose goal is to enlist in the army and turn the tide of WWII. Due to physical limitations he is promptly denied enlistment; but what he lacks in brawn he makes up for in determination. A government scientist sees his potential and signs Rogers up for a top secret experiment, one that transforms Rogers into a hybrid of Arnold Schwarzenegger and John Wayne. Now dubbed Captain America, he fights for freedom against the ruthless Nazi organization Hydra and their deranged leader Johann Schmidt, aka Red Skull (his moniker is pretty much self explanatory). Equal parts WWII film and action-packed sci-fi extravaganza this is the last of Marvel’s origin stories that lead into The Avengers (2012). ‘Nuff said… for now. AKA The First Avenger.
