     Big Fish
2003  PG-13  FANTASY  2h 5min
CAST— Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Alison Lohman, Robert Guillaume, Marion Cotillard, Steve Buscemi, Danny DeVito
MUSIC— Danny Elfman  DIRECTOR— Tim Burton  BASED ON— Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions (novel), by Daniel Wallace

Tim Burton does it again! Like Beetlejuice (1988) and Edward Scissorhands (1991), this is classic Burton. Albert Finney plays a southern charmer who tells stories of his life, fantastic tales of adventure and romance, with more than a touch of fantasy thrown into the mix. But his son, always in his father’s shadow, tries to find the man behind the myth. We see these stories unfold in bright, dark, funny, touching, Burton-esqe scenes with Ewan McGregor as the father. With memorable characters, great music, and beautiful set design throughout, this is a wonderful film for everyone. Many think this replaces Edward Scissorhands as Burton’s classic. If so, no movie deserves it more.
OUR RATING— *** ½
