     I Am Legend
2007  PG-13  SCIENCE FICTION  1h 40min
CAST— Will Smith, Alice Braga, Dash Mihok
MUSIC— James Newton Howard  DIRECTOR— Francis Lawrence  BASED ON— I Am Legend (novel), by Richard Matheson

Paranoia becomes massive terror after nightfall in a desolate NYC. A mutant virus has virtually wiped out the human race, leaving behind strange vampiritic creatures that prey on the uninfected. Enter Doctor Robert Neville, an immune Army virologist determined to find a cure. But there’s a new threat in town, a new breed of creature, and Neville just may have met his match… With a slow storyline and stodgy CGI, this film should have been much more than the end result. Special Edition DVD contains both theatrical and unrated extended versions (extended read as four minutes longer); unrated version offers an alternate ending for the film geeks to discuss.
OUR RATING— ** ½
ORIGINAL— The Last Man on Earth (1964), The Omega Man (1971)
