As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Huckleberry Finn
1974  G  MUSICAL  1h 58min
CAST— Jeff East, Paul Winfield, Harvey Korman, David Wayne, Arthur O’Connell, Gary Merrill
MUSIC— Richard Sherman, Robert Sherman  DIRECTOR— J. Lee Thompson  BASED ON— The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (novel), by Mark Twain

We last left Huckleberry Finn at the closing of Tom Sawyer (1973), happy as a lark, adrift on the Mississippi. This time around new adventures await him as he escapes the clutches of his abusive father and sets out for freedom with a runaway slave. They glide along the Mississip’ from adventure to adventure getting caught up in deadly feuds, evading slave traders, and eventually becoming involved with two con men who try in vain to gyp two girls out of an inheritance. It’s a song-filled bore-fest, only livened up by the presence of Harvey Korman as The King, a quick witted conman with more than one trick up his sleeve. Forget the rest.
OUR RATING— * ½
PRECEDED BY— Tom Sawyer (1973)
