As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

A star is born! Although Humphrey Bogart had been in several films prior to High Sierra, it was this performance that made his a household name. He plays a recently released convict who is anything but rehabilitated. As soon as he hits the streets he sets a scheme in motion to pull one last heist. But along the way he falls for a shy young woman with an unfortunate infirmity. While living the life of the notorious criminal he leads a double life charming the young beauty and her family. But things never go exactly according to plan, now do they? Though receiving only second billing Bogart is clearly the star of this picture… besides Zero, of course.
OUR RATING— ** ½
REMADE AS— Colorado Territory (1949), I Died a Thousand Times (1955)
