     Diary of a Madman
1963  NR  HORROR  1h 36min
CAST— Vincent Price
MUSIC— Richard LaSalle  DIRECTOR— Reginald Le Borg  BASED ON— Le Horla (story), by Guy de Maupassant

“Entries of confusion. Dear Diary, I’m here to stay.” Vincent Price stars in this Gothic horror as a French magistrate who condemns a murderer possessed by a terrible evil. After the killer dies Price begins to notice strange happenings accompanied by a disembodied voice identifying itself as the Horla, a creature that feeds on evil deeds. Price eventually falls in love with a married woman, a vain, gold digging model. The Horla commands Price to kill her and pin the murder on her husband. Will Price be able to withstand the torture that the Horla has planned for him if he fails to carry out the Horla’s plans? A surprisingly entertaining chiller despite the fact that the villain is a series of opening doors, toppling chairs and spooky laughter.
OUR RATING— ** ½
