     It’s a Great Feeling
1949  NR  COMEDY  1h 25min
CAST— Dennis Morgan, Doris Day, Jack Carson, Bill Goodwin
MUSIC— Jule Styne  DIRECTOR— David Butler

No, it isn’t. Doris Day stars in this standard musical comedy as a Hollywood newbie determined to become a star. Jack Carson (as himself) is setting up a picture deal with Warner Bros.; but he needs a leading lady or the deal is off. Who should come walking in but Day herself, looking every bit the undiscovered talent. Now to convince the producer to let a nobody take the role… The rest of the film is spent with Carson planning elaborate situations for his producer to “discover” Day. Movie buffs will note cameos aplenty: Ronald Reagan, Joan Crawford, Edward G. Robinson, Danny Kaye, Jane Wyman, and more. Despite the cameos this is almost a mirror image of another 1949 Doris Day musical comedy, coincidentally co-starring Carson: My Dream is Yours. That one wasn’t a showstopper either.
OUR RATING— **
