As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Jackass Mail
1942  NR  COMEDY  1h 18min
CAST— Wallace Beery, Marjorie Main
MUSIC— David Snell  DIRECTOR— Norman Z. McLeod

No, Johnny Knoxville and Wee Man haven’t joined the U.S. Postal Service, though that’s a good guess. This is a tale of the old West, a tale of a former horse thief, a “reformed” drinker (Wallace Beery) who falls in with Marjorie Main and her mail service. Seemingly taking the straight and narrow (for now, at least) Beery and Main eventually take in an orphan boy who idolizes Beery yet looks down on his seedy way of life. Beery vows and vows to be a better man for the boy and soon has a love interest in Main. Good natured fun in this forgotten feature, fit for family viewing.
OUR RATING— ** ½
