     The Mummy Returns
2001  PG-13  ACTION  2h 10min
CAST— Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, Patricia Velasquez, Freddie Boath, Alun Armstrong, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
MUSIC— Alan Silvestri  DIRECTOR— Stephen Sommers

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return for more mummy madness, this time with a son in tow. In a plot as complicated as you’d expect the baddies resurrect the original BCE bad boy (once again played by Arnold Vosloo) so that he can destroy an enemy of a different feather: the fearsome (and oh-so poorly computer generated) Scorpion King (played by professional wrestler The Rock). Whoever wins this showdown will use their ancient Egyptian army of the dead to rule the world. Or something. It doesn’t make a ton of sense. Anyway, the bad guys kidnap Fraser and Weisz’s son because he’s wearing the Scorpion King’s magic bracelet that shows the way to the pyramid where the endgame will take place. So, of course, as his parents, it’s Fraser and Weisz’s obligation to go after the little brat (if they can stop lovin’ on each other, that is). The film obviously has its fair share of problems but compare this to The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (2008) and this seems a masterpiece.
