As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Notorious
1946  NR  DRAMA  1h 41min
CAST— Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, Louis Calhern, Leopoldine Konstantin, Reinhold Schunzel, Moroni Olsen
MUSIC— Roy Webb  DIRECTOR— Alfred Hitchcock

Intriguing spy drama centering on the love/hate relationship between FBI agent Cary Grant and socialite Ingrid Bergman. He needs her to do a little espionage work in Rio where some of her father’s old cronies have been doing some bad stuff for the wrong side on the old war front. The job involves more than a little danger, and that’s too bad, because this agent and his new partner begin to fall in love. More complications arise when one of her main sources of illegal information asks her to marry him. It’s not so easy being a spy. The drama unfolds at a fast clip, and the tension remains tight throughout in this classic Hitchcock thriller. P.S.: Watch for the man himself, Hitchcock, guzzling champagne at a super-snotty black-tie shindig. Deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress National Film Registry.
OUR RATING— ***
