1922  NR  HORROR  1h 34min
CAST— Max Schreck, Alexander Granach, Gustav von Wangenhaim, Greta Schroeder
MUSIC— Hans Erdmann  DIRECTOR— F. W. Murnau  BASED ON— Dracula (novel), by Bram Stoker

An eerie and absorbing chiller, this tale of vampirism showcases the talents of the rather creepy Max Schreck. Schreck plays the mysterious Orlok, a Transylvanian count seeking to purchase a house on new ground. In a tiny German hamlet a realtor sends a liaison to the Carpathian Mountains to close the deal with Count Orlok. But upon his arrival the young man is seriously creeped out by strange happenings, bad vibes, and the count himself. Could Orlok be more than man, perhaps a vampire? Atmospheric chills await those who dare to enter the realm of the undead in this silent classic (the first filmed version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula) that still leaves an impression. The making of the film was later fictionalized in the fascinating Shadow of the Vampire (2000). AKA Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror).
