     Period of Adjustment
1962  NR  COMEDY-DRAMA  1h 52min
CAST— Tony Franciosa, Jane Fonda, Jim Hutton, Lois Nettleton, John McGiver, Jack Albertson
MUSIC— Lyn Murray  DIRECTOR— George Roy Hill  BASED ON— Period of Adjustment (play), by Tennessee Williams

Jane Fonda gives an inspired performance in this sometimes light, mostly dim comedy-drama about the tribulations of married life. Jane plays a newlywed whose husband is more than a little overbearing. They stop at the home of one of his old Army buddies on their way down south on a disastrous honeymoon drive, only to find out that his marriage has just fallen apart. Soon conversation turns to arguments between the three and no solutions seem anywhere in sight. Those looking for a lighthearted romp may be in for a disappointment; the drama takes precedence over the comedy. But the film is worth a viewing simply for Fonda’s portrayal of an emotional train wreck. Can anyone say “annulment”?
