As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Austin Powers in Goldmember
2002  PG-13  COMEDY  1h 38min
CAST— Mike Myers, Beyoncé Knowles, Seth Green, Michael York, Robert Wagner, Mindy Sterling, Verne Troyer, Michael Caine
MUSIC— George S. Clinton  DIRECTOR— Jay Roach

Pervasive crudity is the order of the day for this third installment of the ever-popular Austin Powers series. By now the novelty of Dr. Evil and Mini-Me has worn thin. Even Fat Bastard fails to deliver. But there’s a new villain in town, one who loves gold in all its shapes and forms. Austin leaps to 1970’s London where his father is being held captive by the bad guys. Meanwhile, Dr. Evil’s son Scott is desperate for daddy’s attention so he creates a new persona, slightly evil, mostly dumb. Though there are humorous characters to spare, including newcomer Goldmember (who is from Holland. Isn’t that veird?) there really is no story to speak of, just a stream of perversity from credits to credits. But if this is your bag, man, go for it.
OUR RATING— **
PRECEDED BY— Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
