As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
1997  PG-13  COMEDY  1h 34min
CAST— Mike Myers, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael York, Mimi Rogers, Robert Wagner, Seth Green, Fabiana Udenio, Charles Napier, Will Ferrell
MUSIC— George S. Clinton  DIRECTOR— Jay Roach

‘Ello, ‘ello, you swingers. Who’s the most shagadelic spy ever to serve on Her Majesty’s Secret Service? No, not Bond! Powers. Austin Powers. Austin Danger Powers. Yeah, baby! After being frozen in 1967, he is later thawed in 1997 to defeat his arch-nemesis… Dr. Evil. Dr. Evil has undergone the same freeze/thaw thing and now has a son (who hates him) and an array of individuals ready to risk someone else’s life for Dr. Evil. Austin, on the other hand, is trying to adjust to life in the nineties while still trying to be the same irresistible lover that he was in the swingin’ sixties. Oh yeah, and prevent Dr. Evil from destroying the world. This is a hit-or-miss comedy that tries really hard to be funny, but it tries a little too hard at times, being a bit repetitive after awhile. Still funny, but not a modern day classic. Most of the catchphrases from the last decade have spawned from this franchise.
OUR RATING— ** ½
FOLLOWED BY— Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
