The Man Who Came to Dinner
1941  NR  COMEDY  1h 52min
CAST— Bette Davis, Ann Sheridan, Monty Wooley, Billie Burke, Jimmy Durante, Richard Travis, Grant Mitchell, Mary Wickes, Elizabeth Fraser, Reginald Gardiner
MUSIC— Frederic Hollander  DIRECTOR— William Keighley  BASED ON— The Man Who Came to Dinner (play), by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman

Monty Wooley gives an infuriatingly comic performance in this sometimes witty, sometimes droll comedy. A famous author visits a family’s home for dinner and slips on their front stoop, breaking his hip. Soon after taking him into their home he begins to order them around as if he owned the place, taking complete charge of the household. He starts making ridiculous requests, having odd visitors, and begins threatening to sue the homeowner. Not much of a house guest, huh? The film has a promising premise but ultimately fails to deliver, though solid performances by Wooley and Bette Davis manage to keep your interest. The moral: think twice about inviting your next house guest.
