The Man They Could Not Hang
1939  NR  SCIENCE FICTION  1h 4min
CAST— Boris Karloff, Lorna Gray, Robert Wilcox, Roger Pryor, Ann Doran
MUSIC— R. H. Bassett  DIRECTOR— Nick Grinde

Though not a renowned classic, still an entertaining exercise in Karloffian history. Boris Karloff, ever the dedicated scientist, subjects a student to a voluntary death in hopes of an immediate scientific resurrection. When the police interrupt halfway through the experiment he has yet to revive the man. The cops see this as murder, as do judge and jury, who sentence him to death. After death by hanging (they do, in fact, hang him) his assistant acquires his body and revives him. Karloff then takes revenge on those responsible for his sentence, though never losing his polite demeanor. Fairly standard for a revenge flick, but fun for Karloff fans.
OUR RATING— ** ½
ORIGINAL— The Walking Dead (1936)
