I Want to Believe… in giant moths fluttering over the West Virginia coal mines. Richard Gere plays a reporter for The Washington Post, still grieving the loss of his late wife. Two years after her death he finds himself mysteriously drawn to the sleepy town of Point Pleasant, W. Va., where things have been pretty X-Files lately. People are reporting strange happenings involving lights, phone calls, and strangely prophetic dreams. Could these events be the telltale signs of the Mothman, a globe-trotting harbinger of doom for those involved? To uncover the truth Gere must examine his mind and his heart before time runs out. Intriguing film never quite lives up to its fascinating premise but the eerie atmospherics almost pay off.
OUR RATING— ** ½
