As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     MouseHunt
1997  PG  COMEDY  1h 38min
CAST— Nathan Lane, Lee Evans, Vicki Lewis, Maury Chaykin, Christopher Walken
MUSIC— Alan Silvestri  DIRECTOR— Gore Verbinski

Slapstick and sentiment unite in this family friendly farce. Two brothers inherit an outdated string factory from their dearly departed, string-obsessed father. As a bonus they are bequeathed a derelict house neither of the brothers knew existed. While one brother is shamed in his profession the other is scorned at home. Thus, they must live in the old claptrap and try to put up with one another. To make matters worse the house already has an occupant: a tenacious mouse who is master of his environment. The brothers try their best to rid themselves of their verminous friend amidst a full-blown renovation (so as to sell the place to the highest bidder) but end up with more destruction than you can shake a wheel of cheese at. The chases are fast and the brothers are furious as they try every means of mouse murder under the sun, and all in vain. Alas, not every moment is a fury of funny; the lame references to Laurel and Hardy will be lost on the younger set while their elders may just cringe. The cartoonish violence against the furry may not go over so well with PETA. Still, for the rest of the audience this may prove almost worthwhile.
OUR RATING— ** ½
