Monty Python and the Holy Grail
1974  PG  COMEDY  1h 32min
CAST— Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin
MUSIC— Neil Innes  DIRECTORS— Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones

The legends of King Arthur get bashed by Monty Python in this nothing sacred bastardization of, well, King Arthur legends. Various knights lead various quests to find the ancient Holy Grail for some reason, and we get a good dose of Python and some good laughs along the way. The film is actually nothing more than sketch-like scenes with the only link to each other being the elusive Holy Grail. It has many good scenes (the Black Knight, the Knights of Ni, the Killer Rabbit, etc.), but tends to slow during the third act. Each troupe member gives multiple performances. Though certainly not for all tastes, film provides good times and good lines for fans of Monty Python, both casual and fanatic. Inspired the Broadway musical Monty Python’s Spamalot.
OUR RATING— ** ½
