     Monsters vs. Aliens
2009  PG  ANIMATED  1h 34min
CAST— Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogan, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson
MUSIC— Henry Jackman  DIRECTORS— Rob Letterman, Conrad Vernon

An animated homage to the 1950s sci-fi flick. Susan is your average blushing bride-to-be; that is until she is struck by a meteorite and grows to towering heights. A special branch of the government captures her, renames her Ginormica and imprisons her with other monstrosities: the Missing Link, an ape/lizard deal; B.O.B, a brainless mass of gel; Dr. Cockroach, a human/cockroach hybrid; Insectosaurous, a big furry… thing. When malevolent extraterrestrials begin to attack the planet these monsters are recruited to deal with the alien menace. Top notch animation and vocal talent add panache to an action packed comedic adventure. Not as funny as one might expect but other attributes pick up the slack. Later developed into an animated television series.
OUR RATING— ***
