As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Pressure Point
1962  NR  DRAMA  1h 31min
CAST— Sidney Poitier, Bobby Darin, Peter Falk, Carl Benton Reid, Mark Munday, Barry Gordon, Howard Caine
MUSIC— Ernest Gold  DIRECTOR— Hubert Cornfield  BASED ON—Destiny’s Tot (story), by Dr. Robert M. Lindner

Strong performances enhance this character study involving a prison psychiatrist (played by Sidney Poitier) and his troublesome patient, a racist, Nazi sympathizer (played by Bobby Darin) during World War II. Breaking through the patient’s shell is no easy task, as the doctor soon finds out, but slowly he begins to realize what drives this man before him: Hatred. Pure hatred; towards anything and everything. Little does he understand the depth of the patient’s hatred. The film chronicles the story of this patient’s life, as seen through multiple flashbacks, but therein lies the problem; the memories have a dreamy, Rod Serling feel to them, and far too many flashbacks detract from the overall effect of the film.
OUR RATING— ** ½
