As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Robocop
2014  PG-13  SCIENCE FICTION  1h 58min
CAST— Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson
MUSIC— Pedro Bromfman  DIRECTOR— José Padilha

Glossy, stylized remake of the super violent ‘80s hit. Omnicorp, that super-conglomerate responsible for those robotic lawmen being used to rid the world of crime, needs a new money making gimmick. Sure, their robots are efficient, but people want peace officers with emotion. Human emotion. When Detroit police detective Alex Murphy is blown up by the city’s biggest crime lord his barely breathing remains are combined with robotics, creating a cybernetic/organic hybrid that is tough as nails yet has the capacity for emotion. Robocop starts to mop up crime in Detroit but when he gets too close to corruption in the department the powers that be decide to pull the plug. Murphy must survive against adversaries, both man and machine alike, root out his would be killers and find a way to reunite with his loving family. Action packed outing has the goods but the delivery is somewhat stale, coming off as a polished, yet dull take on a science fiction thriller. Peppered with a talented cast (Michael Keaton a standout) but even they can’t totally rescue this one. Thank you for your cooperation.
OUR RATING— **
ORIGINAL— Robocop (1987)
