Constant gunplay is the name of the game
in this slightly subdued sequel. It seems that Omni Consumer Products (OCP) has
a new squad of cops on the job, their main objective to evict millions of
Detroit’s citizens so as to pave the way for a city of the future. A growing
rebellion of displaced, heavily armed civilians oppose this new regime, leading
to violence and riots on the city streets. And who should join this motley
group but the original face of OCP, Robocop himself, bent on avenging his
longtime partner’s murder. But it won’t be easy; not only do the rebels face
OCP officers, they also contend with punk gang members and robotic ninjas (and
one wonders how this film was overlooked during Oscar season). Never reaches
the depths of sleaziness that Robocop 2 (1990) displayed, but then again
few films do outside of Quentin Tarantino territory. Nevertheless this is an
eye rolling experience that miserably fails to impress. Take it or… on second
thought, just leave it.
