As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     The Ape
1940  NR  SUSPENSE  1h 2min
CAST— Boris Karloff, Maris Wrixon, Gertrude W. Hoffman, Henry Hall
MUSIC— Edward J. Kay  DIRECTOR— William Nigh

Cheesy chiller starring a mustachioed Boris Karloff as a kindly small town doctor seeking to cure a paralyzed girl of her affliction. Meanwhile, a murderous gorilla escapes from a travelling circus and tears through the countryside. Karloff is fortunate enough to kill the ape and escape unscathed. He then dons the ape’s skin as a bodysuit and roams the town looking for hapless victims to conduct human experimentation. There are much worse ways to waste an hour but there is also much better Karloffian fare.
OUR RATING— * ½
