     The Car
1977  PG  HORROR  1h 38min
CAST— James Brolin, Kathleen Lloyd, John Marley, Ronny Cox, R. G. Armstrong, John Rubenstein, Elizabeth Thompson
MUSIC— Leonard Rosenman  DIRECTOR— Elliot Silverstein

James Brolin stars in yet another ‘70s cinematic masterpiece, a film so blinding in its beauty that filmmakers hence forth shouldn’t even try to top it. Oh, wait. Actually we’re talking about The Car, a massive motorized misfire about a souped-up mystery car terrorizing the close knit denizens of a rural Utah community. Brolin is the mustachioed sheriff whose job is to protect and serve, deflect and swerve… but how is one to do so when the driverless auto is rendering the populace into roadkill? Never as compelling (or even close to interesting) as the filmmakers want to endorse; not even any humor (intentional or otherwise) to lighten the mood. Just plain ol’ 70s era Terra. Just be glad you weren’t there-a.
