Superior thriller featuring Robert Mitchum in a commanding performance as an ex-con with a vendetta against Gregory Peck. Peck plays a prosperous attorney who testified against Mitchum some eight years ago. Now Mitchum is back and he’s out for blood. Peck tries to protect his vulnerable wife and daughter as this creepy, leering stalker continues his threatening behavior. Peck goes to great lengths to protect his family, using various means, both legal and illegal. But Mitchum proves to be an intelligent adversary, evading most of Peck’s snares. As the film progresses toward the gut-wrenching finale Mitchum becomes more and more determined to bring the pain to Peck and company. Wonderfully affecting suspense yarn, treating the viewer to a classic among the genre.
