As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Captain America
1979  NR  ACTION/TELEVISION  1h 37min
CAST— Reb Brown
MUSIC— Pete Carpenter, Mike Post  DIRECTOR— Don Ingalls  BASED ON— Characters appearing in Marvel Comics

Absolutely ludicrous imagining of the patriotic avenger sure to leave Marvel diehards cold. Here we have former marine Steve Rogers returning to his coastal hometown where his patriotic father (the original Captain America) was murdered or something so it’s up to Steve to take up Cap’s mantle. From then on Cap rides a motorcycle, wields a ridiculous version of the now iconic shield and tries to add gravity to a one-dimensional performance. Only recommended to those in the mood for nonsense light years removed from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Re-released theatrically in 1981.
OUR RATING— *
FOLLOWED BY— Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979)
REMADE AS— Captain America (1990), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
