     Cowboys & Aliens
2011  PG-13  SCIENCE FICTION  1h 58min
CAST— Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde
MUSIC— Harry Gregson-Williams  DIRECTOR— Jon Favreau  BASED ON— Characters appearing in Cowboys & Aliens (comic book)

Uninspired mashup of Western saga and sci-fi adventure. Daniel Craig plays a mysterious amnesiac who wanders into a desolate mining town only to find that he’s been recognized as a wanted outlaw. But the townspeople will soon have more to deal with than a lone renegade; extraterrestrial spacecraft begin swooping down and snaring the unsuspecting populace. Craig (rather unwillingly) joins a rescue team comprised of cowboys, Indians and everyone in between. An excellent cast barely pulls this film out of the fire. A been-there-done-that feel permeates what could have been a rousing good time. A letdown. Extended version also available.
OUR RATING— ** ½
