     In Cold Blood
1996  NR  DRAMA/TELEVISION  4h
CAST— Anthony Edwards, Eric Roberts, Sam Neill
MUSIC— Hummie Mann  DIRECTOR— Jonathan Kaplan  BASED ON— In Cold Blood (book), by Truman Capote

Truman Capote’s classic nonfiction novel is slightly tamed for television audiences. A leering Anthony Edwards and a somewhat slow-witted Eric Roberts star as partners in crime Dick Hickok and Perry Smith, respectively, who strike out for Kansas with less than honorable intentions. While incarcerated Hickok learned of one Mr. Clutter, a prosperous Kansan with deep pockets. After his release Hickok partnered with Smith to seek out the Clutter homestead, rob the family blind and leave no witnesses. The film details the relationship between the two outlaws as well as delving into the lives of the Clutter family. Fine performances enhance this otherwise average miniseries. Look for a young Ryan Reynolds as young Miss Clutter’s beau.
OUR RATING— ** ½
ORIGINAL— In Cold Blood (1967)
