As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     The Curse of Frankenstein
1957  NR  HORROR  1h 23min
CAST— Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Hazel Court, Robert Urquhart, Valarie Gaunt, Noel Hood
MUSIC— James Bernard  DIRECTOR— Terence Fisher

Hammer Horror began with this moody little take on the Shelly legend, with Peter Cushing playing the maniacal monster maker. He brain storms an idea: take the limbs and the odd brain from the dead and restore them to life using lots of bubbling liquid and noise. His lab partner thinks this to be an abomination, tries to stop Cushing and ultimately sees the horror of a man-made creature (Christopher Lee). Lee looks great in superior makeup that takes its cue more from gore than from Karloff.
OUR RATING— ** ½
FOLLOWED BY— The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958), The Evil of Frankenstein (1964), Frankenstein Created Woman (1967), Frankenstein Must be Destroyed (1969), The Horror of Frankenstein (1970), Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1973)
