     The Detective
1968  NR  DRAMA  1h 54min
CAST— Frank Sinatra, Lee Remick, Ralph Meeker, Jacqueline Bisset, William Windom, Al Freeman, Tony Musante, Jack Klugman, Robert Duvall
MUSIC— Jerry Goldsmith  DIRECTOR— Gordon Douglas  BASED ON— The Detective (novel), by Roderick Thorp

Tense suspense yarn featuring a bravura performance by Frank Sinatra as a gumshoe looking into the gruesome death of a homosexual man in NYC. He practically scrapes the gutters looking for answers to the mystery as powerful political forces move behind the scenes. The perp is soon captured and brought to justice… or is he? As one case is closed another is opened: a successful businessman leaps to his death from a rooftop, seemingly a case of mindless suicide… or was it? A vast conspiracy is soon uncovered behind his dealings that could spell the end for Sinatra. A melodramatic potboiler, shocking in its audacity. Final note: the novel The Detective was followed by a sequel, Nothing Lasts Forever, which was released for the silver screen (with a few changes) as Die Hard (1988)!
OUR RATING— ***
