As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Creature from the Black Lagoon
1954  NR  HORROR  1h 19min
CAST— Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno
MUSIC— Henry Mancini, Hans J. Salter, Herman Stein  DIRECTOR— Jack Arnold

Swim for your life! This classic monster picture from Universal is aquatic fun for those in the mood for amphibian-induced chills and thrills. An Amazonian expedition is underway. Scientists searching for fossilized remains trek to a beautiful lagoon, teeming with life in and above the water… including the terrifying amphibian Gill Man who values his privacy and covets the fetching female researcher who keeps swimming by. Great atmosphere and graceful underwater photography showcase the monster in a creepy yet somehow sympathetic light. Oh well; inter-sub-species relationships rarely work out, anyway. Originally filmed in 3-D.
OUR RATING— ** ½
FOLLOWED BY— Revenge of the Creature (1955), The Creature Walks Among Us (1956)
