     Hulk
2003  PG-13  ACTION  2h 18min
CAST— Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly, Sam Elliot, Josh Lucas, Nick Nolte
MUSIC— Danny Elfman  DIRECTOR— Ang Lee  BASED ON— Characters appearing in Marvel Comics

Once again, another Marvel Comics character comes to life on the big screen, this time with lukewarm results. Scientist Bruce Krenzler (born Bruce Banner), after an accident involving gamma radiation, soon starts to show strange signs of something arising from deep inside of him, something powerful… and it wants out. When he gets angry, he turns a bit green around the gills and becomes a raging Hulk, causing destruction everywhere he goes. We learn the dark secrets of this man, of his father, and of the beast inside. Strong performances and amazing effects keep it going, but the film lacks speed, and the direction, in a comic book style, becomes a bit tiring. One more little grievance: the classic line “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry” is only spoken once… in Spanish, with English subtitles. That’s a bit of a letdown. Final note: This film is in no way related to the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk.
OUR RATING— ** ½
REMADE AS— The Incredible Hulk (2008)
