     Igor
2008  PG  ANIMATED  1h 26min
CAST— John Cusack, John Cleese, Steve Buscemi, Sean Hayes, Molly Shannon, Jennifer Coolidge
MUSIC— Patrick Doyle  DIRECTOR— Tony Leondis

Paging Tim Burton. Okay, this strikingly macabre animated feature may not live up to Burton’s usual (and unusual) flair for the dark side, but these filmmakers must have tried their hardest. Meet Igor, demented slave to a crazed scientist. When said scientist evaporates during an experiment, Igor continues the doctor’s work, even throwing in some of his own inventions. The end result is a living, breathing creature, a woman of vast proportions. Igor realizes that this creature can now earn him a spot to compete in the Evil Science Fair; if only she weren’t so darn nice. Meanwhile, a washed up scientist sees potential in this naïve creation, and he’ll stop at nothing to attain her and possibly the grand prize at the Evil Science Fair. Despite the PG rating, this film is not recommendable for younger audiences, due to the degree of morbidity involved: we’re talking severed limbs, grotesque creatures, not to mention a suicidal rabbit who has the bad fortune to be immortal. The color is bright and vibrant, but the animation is below par. The sad thing is, the film is eye-catching to kids, but some content is more appropriate for teens and adults. A pity.
