As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     I Confess
1953  NR  DRAMA  1h 31min
CAST— Montgomery Clift, Anne Baxter, Karl Malden, Brian Ahern, Dolly Haas, O. E. Hasse
MUSIC— Dimitri Tiomkin  DIRECTOR— Alfred Hitchcock  BASED ON— Nos deux consciences (play), by Paul Anthelme

Now here’s a guy who takes his job seriously. Montgomery Clift plays a Catholic priest with a troubled past. Into his confessional walks a friend who says that he’s committed a murder. Due to Clift’s oaths as a man of the cloth what happens in confessional stays in confessional. The body is soon discovered, suspects are named… with Clift at the top of the list. He refuses to divulge any information learned in confessional, which leads the police to believe that he is in fact guilty. An intriguing drama (another one that showcases Hitch’s police phobia); never top of the line, but surely entertaining.
OUR RATING— ** ½
