As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

Heaven with a Barbed Wire Fence
1939  NR  DRAMA  1h 2min
CAST— Glenn Ford
MUSIC— Samuel Kaylin  DIRECTOR— Ricardo Cortez

A young Glenn Ford delivers a solid performance in this quickie road trip drama. Low level worker Ford tires of the Big Apple and begins a journey to the Promised Land: the Arizona ranch he’s devoted years of paychecks to buy. He decides to hobo it by hitching and jumping freight trains. Along the way he encounters a young Spanish woman (who turns out to be an illegal alien) and two veteran hobos, one a genteel, wizened professor. With his head in the clouds Ford dreams of his ranch, barely realizing that he’s begun to fall for little miss senorita. Less a love story than it is a tale of friendly companionship between four acquaintances with touches of comedy, tragedy and wisdom.
