     House of Usher
1960  NR  HORROR  1h 19min
CAST— Vincent Price, Mark Damon, Myrna Fahey, Harry Ellerbe
MUSIC— Les Baxter  DIRECTOR— Roger Corman  BASED ON— The Fall of the House of Usher (story), by Edgar Allen Poe

Tedious film version of Poe’s tale of madness. When a young man travels from afar to meet his betrothed at her ancestral home he is met with nothing but resistance. He learns that her brother, the lord of the manor, is a borderline psycho with morbid obsessions. Brother believes his sister to be on her deathbed, that the house is malevolent and intends to kill, and that this young man brings bad vibes to the household. Inevitable disasters occur but the viewer may be less than compelled by this low grade chiller. AKA The Fall of the House of Usher, The Mysterious House of Usher. Deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress National Film Registry.
OUR RATING— * ½
