     Hell’s Heroes
1929  NR  WESTERN  1h 8min
CAST— Charles Bickford, Raymond Hatton
MUSIC— Sam Perry, Heinz Roemheld  DIRECTOR— William Wyler  BASED ON— The Three Godfathers (novel), by Peter B. Kyne

A two for one special; a Western concerning the seemingly hopeless plight of the wanted outlaw and the heartfelt drama of three caregivers and the infant in their charge. When a band of thieves rob a small bank they barely escape with their lives. After evading the posse from town the three outlaws trek through the desert, their water supply dwindling. Soon the film is turned on its ear when the three men are stuck with an orphaned newborn! In order to find the child a permanent home the three are forced to return to the very town where a noose is waiting for their necks. A different kind of Western, one with plenty of heart, with generous doses of comedy thrown into the mix. Not a bad way to kill an hour and change.
OUR RATING— ***
ORIGINAL— The Three Godfathers (1916), Action (1921)
REMADE AS— Three Godfathers (1936), 3 Godfathers (1948)
