Pleasant throwback to ‘60s Disney animation, this time focusing on a young boy named Mowgli, raised by wolves, whose life is threatened by the presence of the oh-so-suave man-eating tiger, Shere Khan. Various wild animals escort him to a human village, but when he meets up with Baloo the bear, things shift into overdrive. The boy becomes obsessed with the bare necessities of life and film history is born. A few too many ‘60s tinged songs scatter about the film, but the kids are sure to enjoy this Disney classic.
OUR RATING— ** ½
FOLLOWED BY— The Jungle Book 2 (2003)
ORIGINAL— Jungle Book (1942)
REMADE AS— Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (1994), The Jungle Book: Mowgli’s Story (1998), The Jungle Book (2016)
