Director John Ford’s depiction of events leading up to the dramatic shootout at the O.K. Corral. Wyatt Earp (played by a rather unimposing Henry Fonda) is your average cowhand until one of his brothers is killed on the outskirts of the small town of Tombstone. Earp then signs on as marshal of Tombstone swearing vengeance for his lost brother. He soon crosses paths with town bad boy John “Doc” Holliday, with whom he surprisingly strikes up a fast friendship. In a matter of days Earp finds his brother’s murderers who eventually challenge Earp to the legendary and exciting gun battle at the famed corral. Considered a classic; not as good as other versions of the tale, though this one is based on actual accounts told to director Ford by the aged Earp himself. Deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress National Film Registry.
