As Seen On Screen

As Seen on Screen offers readers a chance to see film reviews for the everyman, without all of the clutter and nonsense fed to the average filmgoer. Plain, straitforward, to the point. That's our goal. We offer a diverse catalogue of which to choose from, from silent comedies to modern superhero films. Final note: this is a family friendly blog. We only review films rated G through PG-13, plus the unrated films of yesteryear. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, pull up a crumpet and enjoy. Thanks for your support!

     Murders in the Rue Morgue
1932  NR  HORROR  1h 1min
CAST— Bela Lugosi, Sidney Fox, Leon Waycoff (Ames), Bert Roach, Noble Johnson, Brandon Hurst, Arlene Francis
MUSIC— Heinz Roemheld  DIRECTOR— Robert Florey  BASED ON— The Murders in the Rue Morgue (story), by Edgar Allan Poe

Positively silly telling of the Poe classic, as told in typical Universal horror fashion. Bela Lugosi, a sideshow performer with ape partner in tow, kidnaps young women so that he can perform heinous experiments on them. In trying to mate the ape Lugosi injects ape blood into the unwilling girls, which kills them. Leon Ames is a young medical student whose girlfriend is the next target. As Ames collects blood samples from the victims he edges closer to the ultimate revelation. Absurd.
OUR RATING— *

REMADE AS— The Phantom of the Rue Morgue (1953), The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1971), The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1986)
